After days of protests and calls to take action on gun control following the Valentine’s Day massacre at a Florida high school, President Trump has directed the Department of Justice to ban ‘bump stock’ gun modifications. This gun modification was used by assailants in several recent mass shootings such as Las Vegas Strip shooting in October 2017.
Trump also called Republicans to work on passing legislation for stricter background checks. Many Americans are demanding stricter gun laws and regulations, as in 2018 there has been an average of one school shooting every three days. It remains unclear whether Republicans in Congress will also take action to prevent mass shootings.
